Occupational Therapist, Full-Time

Job Description:

  • Review patient's medical history to assess patient needs and forecast appropriate therapy
  • Conduct interviews with patients to firmly establish client-centered rehabilitation goals along a specific timeline 
  • Design and implement treatment plans tailored to patient's medical history, goals, and interests to rehabilitate injury, illness, psychological, and/or developmental afflictions 
  • Observe, analyze, and document patient limitations to physical, psychological, and/or cognitive recovery 
  • Incorporate activities in simulated vocational and/or social settings to accelerate recovery of work and life management skills with knowledge of ADL (Activities of Daily Living) and environmental assessments/modifications
  • Design and create, or acquire, supplemental aids and equipment as necessary, such as orthotics, orthopedic splints, hand looms, and hoists
  • Conduct proper maintenance of equipment by troubleshooting malfunctions and requesting repairs
  • Supervise two COTA's (Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants) to assure patient receives adequate support during and after therapy sessions
  • Evaluate results of occupational therapy sessions by documenting and evaluating patient's progress using FIM scores
  • Consult with physicians to determine effectiveness of treatments and potential recommendations regarding medicine
  • Identify difficulties patients may encounter while transitioning to the workplace
  • Recommend changes towards patient work or living environments as necessary 
  • Confer with patients and their employer to ensure all parties understand all necessary workplace accommodations
  • Schedule follow-up appointments with patients, families and their caregivers
  • Provide training in therapy techniques and objectives for nurses, COTA's, and interns
  • Maintain and improve professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications

Requirements: 

  • Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Valid CA Occupational Therapy License is required
  • Must have skills/knowledge of ADL, FIM scores, orthotics, orthopedic splints, hoists, and environmental assessments/modifications
